Snehalaya lodges a protest against domestic violence of women (Dec 2008)

Snehalaya staged Dharna before the District Collector office demanding arrest of the local goons who beat the women in their houses and created terror in Sanjaynagar area and also expressed anguish over the apathy of the police who refused to get the complained lodged at the police station.

The goondas were associated with political parties who tried to molest the ladies beat them.  The police refused to register complaint and instead of taking action against the accused the police arrested the social worker Sandip Kusalakar, who led the women to the police station on fake charges. Snehalaya has submitted a statement to the district collector demanding firm action against the police who refused to lodge the complaint and did not arrest the guilty criminals.  

This is not the first incident that police submit to the pressure from local goondas and refused to do their duty offering protection to ordinary people.  The district police act partially always and there is anarchy like situation in the city.  

Snehalaya organized a huge rally and agitation before the district collector.  Dr. P. Anbalgan, the district collector assured to take action against the guilty after the investigation.  The huge crowd living in slums participated in the rally.
